Madden Games Could Be Coming to the Nintendo Switch

While Madden NFL used to be a mainstay on Nintendo platforms, the series has been missing from its consoles since the last decade. According to a recent job announcement at EA, however, that could be about to change.

The long-running series of football simulations by EA continues to do well in sales, despite the blatant criticism of what appears to be the majority of its fans. The most recent version, Madden NFL 21, received a lot of criticism from players, giving the game a shockingly low score on Metacritic. The game's shaky physics, numerous gameplay issues and an overall perceived lack of polish at launch resulted in it being listed as one of the least enjoyable games of 2020, with fans at one point getting the hashtag NFLDropEA to trend on Twitter.

Doctre81 on YouTube discovered that the Madden NFL franchise is returning to Nintendo. He found the job description for "Online Software Engineer (C++ -- Madden" that runs from November of 2020. The investigation further revealed that a section of the job requirements calls for two years of prior experience working on "Microsoft or Sony game consoles." Although this might not be an excessive amount to be based off of, the previous similar job descriptions at EA did not include Nintendo in the criteria. Madden NFL 13 on Wii U was the last time the series was available on any Nintendo platform. In 2018, EA had said they didn't plan on bringing the series to the Nintendo Switch however the business giant appears to be changing its plans with the hybrid system.

If the theory behind this listing of jobs is accurate, it will represent a change in relation between Electronic Arts and the big N. A lot of franchises will be available on the console's portable version. Apex Legends, a free-to-play battle royale game has been ported to Switch by the company. A lot of players have complained about Apex Switch's low processing power in comparison to their Xbox, PlayStation, or PC counterparts. Insufficient graphics, unimpressive textures, and lowered framerates has turned off many players from playing the quick-paced FPS on the platform.

Nintendo offers a solution, and this could be the reason why Madden is back. Although it's not yet be confirmed by Nintendo, there are rumors of Switch Pro hardware that could allow more graphics-intensive titles to be brought to the platform. The Switch Pro is expected to provide 4K graphics and NVIDIA DLSS technology. This could assist in handling more demanding games.
