Pick a classic and then present your arguments for and against it. Example topic, “Do good outcomes justify the evil methods of achieving the goal?”
Real world examples would be the Firebombing of Dresden in 1945 by the Allies under the theory that killing thousands of civilians would shorten the war.
Another example would be Abraham Lincoln going to war with the Confederacy and breaking parts of the Constitution (writ of Habeas Corpus) for the goal of ending slavery of African Americans in the 1860’s.
Pick either example or a long list of alternatives, then argue the pro’s and con’s of each to show why you personally believe that having a “good intention” justifies using “evil means” to achieve the ultimate goal, or alternately that good that comes from evil methods has too high a cost.
