Besides a trophy and medal from his national tournament victory, Velazquez also won a $1,000 grant to the high school. He wasn't sure what the funds would go toward, but he's trusting players at Lake Stevens will be the beneficiaries. "I would like it to go to the video game club," he explained. "I'm in thisI listened, I started here, I want the money to move here. We could find a system, or games, or more controls, so other kids could play."
Wood has similar ambitions for the club he oversees. Long-term, he sees a gaming den at the college where access is available to all. "I want people to have the ability to compete in esports who don't have a console at home," Wood explained. Velazquez's victory may mean greater than video sport success. If not, Velazquez hopes that he could hang his hat on helping expand aggressive gaming chances for future generations of pupils. "If I assist (esports) become bigger for children that are in elementary and come around Lake Stevens High School, which would be cool," Velazquez said. "It might be a big thing."
